Florida Department of Elder Affairs
The Florida Department of Elder Affairs serves as the primary state agency responsible for administering federal and state human services programs for individuals age 60 and older. Its purpose is to help elders maintain self-sufficiency and self-determination. The department also works to combat ageism through increasing public awareness and understanding of the contributions and needs of elders.
DOEA advocates on behalf of elders and serves as an information clearinghouse to communities preparing for the upsurge in older adults resulting from the aging of baby boomers and increased longevity. For more information, explore the Florida Department of Elder Affairs or call the statewide Elder Helpline at 1-800-96-ELDER (1-800-963-5337).
The Department's Elder Services Directory contains information about organizations that provide services to elders residing in Florida. Its mission is to provide elders and their families/caregivers with a convenient window into the array of aging services available in Florida as well as information about how to contact many of the organizations that provide such services. The information in the Elder Services Directory is organized in a manner that facilitates searches for providers of particular services based on geographic location and based on the type(s) of service of specific interest to the user.
