TALLAHASSEE – The Strategic Planning Subcommittee of the Florida Coordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will hold a teleconference on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 1:30 am to 2:30 pm, EST.
The teleconference is a public meeting, and all interested parties are invited to listen in.
The Florida Coordinating Council for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing was established by state statute in 2004 to serve as an advisory and coordinating body which recommends policies to address the needs of deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened and deaf-blind persons. The 17 coordinating council members are appointed by Governor Bush and represent state agencies, advocacy groups and individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened and deaf-blind.
Nearly 3 million Florida residents are deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened or deaf-blind, making people with hearing loss the largest disability group in the state of Florida. Florida has the second largest population of people who are deaf or hard of hearing in the nation.
NOTICE UNDER THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT: Sign language and oral interpreter services and communication-assisted real-time translation (CART) services will be provided at this meeting. Any person requiring additional accommodations (i.e., deaf-blind interpreting) needs to contact Council Assistant Mary Grace Tavel at least 14 working days prior to the meeting.
